Why Being on Page 1 of Google Matters And How I Got There in 11 Days
Eleven days after launching Nikki Clark Marketing, I typed "Marketing Consultant Hexham" into Google. And there I was four times on page 1. Showing up organically. No paid ads. No shortcuts.
I'm not writing this to show off (okay, maybe a little). I'm writing it because it's a good illustration of something I talk to about all the time: if your customers can't find you online, it doesn't matter how good you are.
Why Does Page 1 of Google Actually Matter?
Most people searching online never make it to page 2. Think about your own behaviour, when did you last scroll past the first page of results? I rest my case!
If you're not on page 1, you're invisible to potential customers who are actively searching for what you offer. And they'll find someone who is.
Being visible on page 1
You build trust before someone even clicks. Multiple listings signal that you're legitimate and established.
You get found by people already looking for you. Warm, high intent driven traffic far more valuable than a cold social post.
You level the playing field. Big budgets don't automatically win in organic search. Good strategy does.
Four Listings. Eleven Days. Here's What That Tells You
Appearing four times wasn't an accident. It came down to making sure every element of my online presence was set up correctly and consistently from day one, platforms that any business probably already has (or should have), working together properly.
You don't need to have been in business for years to rank on page 1. You need the right foundations: a consistent name, address, and phone number across platforms, a well-optimised website, and local SEO signals that tell Google exactly who you are and where you serve.
When those things are in place, Google rewards you quickly. When they're not, you can be trading for years and still not appear.
What Does This Mean for Your Business?
The question isn't whether you need to be on page 1. You do. The question is are you doing the things that get you there?
For a lot of businesses, the answer is no. A website that doesn't match the Google Business Profile. A social bio with a different phone number. An outdated directory listing. These things matter more than most people realise and they're usually a straightforward fix.
That's exactly what I help businesses with. Whether it's a one-off Marketing MOT to find the gaps, or ongoing support to build proper visibility, it doesn't have to be complicated.
